Cary-Grove overpowered Hampshire on Friday, cruising to a 49-13 win in a Fox Valley crossover game. The visiting Trojans scored on their first six possessions, the final of which made it 42-0 with 9:53 left in the third quarter, prompting the remainder of the game to be played with a running clock.

Senior Kyle Norberg rushed for 147 yards on 11 carries in the first half and finished with 149 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Quinn Baker rushed for 89 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns, all in the first half, and finished 6-of-7 for 113 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans (4-0) amassed 309 yards of total offense in the first half, while holding the Whip-Purs (2-2) to 34 total yards in the half.

“The game plan going in was to do what we do and what we’ve been doing, and get some good execution on offense because we really didn’t do that last week,” Baker said. “The line blocked phenomenally today and made big holes for everyone.”

Baker started the scoring with a three-yard run with 5:54 left in the first quarter. After an interception, Quinn made it 14-0 on a 14-yard keeper. Norberg got his first touchdown of the night after exploding up the middle for a 44-yard score. He later made it a 35-0 score with 1:55 left in the half on an 18-yard run.

The Trojans, ranked seventh in Class 7A, pushed the score to 42-0 on a 41-yard strike from Baker to Zach Marszal.

“They’re a good football team,” Hampshire coach Dan Cavanaugh said. “Our guys prepared hard and played hard. They just ran into a very good football team.”

Hampshire got on the board in the third quarter on a Philip LaPointe six-yard touchdown run. Tyler Crater added a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Senior Patrick Kuefner led the Whips with 78 yards on 10 carries.
