Senior quarterback Jack Deichl threw for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns, leading visiting Libertyville to a 42-24 victory over Warren on Friday in a key North Suburban Conference Lake Division football game.
Deichl hooked up with Austin Williams (7 catches, 102 yards) for scoring plays of 8, 9 and 39 yards.
He also threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Connor Simpson (8 catches, 85 yards).
That was enough to erase an early 14-0 deficit, fashioned by Warren’s Devonte Wilcox and Adam Reuss, who scored on runs of 48- and 25-yards, respectively.
Reuss finished 20-of-27 for 211 yards and one score.
The game turned in the third quarter.
After Deichl’s nine-yard TD pass to Williams made it a 21-20 game, Warren botched a punt that set the Wildcats up with good field position.
From there, Brian Swift scored to give Libertyville the lead for good at 28-21.
Warren responded with a 28-yard field goal by Matt Maffong to cut Libertyville lead to 28-24.
But that was it for Warren.
Meanwhile, Deichl threw a 39-yard TD pass to Williams with 6:17 left in the fourth quarter to make it 35-24, and capped his big night with his own scoring run with 3:45 to go.
Deichl finished 24-of-34 passing for 301 yards, and two interceptions to go along with the four scores.
“It’s the third game out of four that we’ve fallen behind early,” noted first-year Libertyville coach Mike Jones. “I like the character we’ve shown in being able to pull out two of the three.
“The difference in the second half,” he added, “was we tackled much better and you could see the confidence in our offense increasing as the game went on.”
Warren’s Wilcox finished with 16 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown.
