Cary-Grove totaled 602 yards of offense in a 45-14 win over Fox Valley Conference Valley Division opponent Jacobs Friday night.

Trojan tailback Kyle Norberg was the star of the night for Cary-Grove (5-0, 2-0). Norberg scored on his first two carries of the night from 63- and 74-yards out. The senior finished the night with 13 carries for 272 yards and three touchdowns.

“I just had a really good feeling right off the bat tonight,” said Norberg. “The offensive line opened up some huge holes for me and I was able to execute.”

“We stuck to our game plan, and it was a huge advantage for us to get the early lead.”
Jacobs (3-2, 1-1) had to change their offensive game plan after starting out in a quick 14-0 hole. The Golden Eagles threw the ball 35 times in defeat.

“Cary-Grove played great tonight and showed why they are such a good team,” said Jacobs coach Bill Mitz. “We really got steamrolled on the ground and we definitely have a lot to work on in practice this week.”

Trailing 28-7 just before halftime, Jacobs had a great chance to cut the lead in half and take some momentum into the third quarter.  The Golden Eagles were unable to convert as Jacobs failed to convert four straight pass plays from the four-yard line.

Trojans coach Brad Seaburg likes the way his team is playing after five weeks this season.

“This has kind of been our pattern all season,” said Seaburg. “We have defended well, ran the ball great, and passed when we needed to.”

“I was pleased with how well the offensive line executed tonight and how physical they played.”

Jacobs was led by quarterback Bret Mooney who threw for 238 yards.
