Simeon used a smothering defense and an opportunistic offense to overpower Vocational 41-0 Thursday night at Gately Stadium.
DeAndre Ward got things going for the Wolverines with a blocked punt that led to a safety. A 21-yard touchdown run by Sharoid Roach, followed by touchdown passes from quarterback Elcee Burke to John Gardner of nine and 35 yards put the No. 17 Wolverines up 22-0 heading into the half.
Roach scored again early in the third quarter to help Simeon (4-1, 2-0 Illini Red Bird) build a 28-0 lead and from that point on the reserves saw plenty of action. Jordan Jackson scored on a 24-yard run and Jeremy Hall's 35-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown closed out the scoring.
Simeon coach Dante Culbreath was pleased with his team's effort.
"When you are as young as we are sometimes you don't know what to expect," Culbreath said. "I wasn't surprised because I know they are capable of playing like this, but you still never know."
The Cavaliers fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.
