The star
Lincoln-Way East senior quarterback Tom Fuessel, who is bound for Northern Illinois, scored the first two touchdowns on runs of 30 and 17 yards and raced 11 yards for an insurance score. He finished with a net of 16-for-79 rushing and completed 4-of-5 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
The moment
On the second play from scrimmage, Bolingbrook All-State quarterback Aaron Bailey ran five yards on an option play. As he was being tackled, he pitched the ball to Omar Stover, who took it the other 84 yards to give the Raiders a 7-0 lead. But on the play, he suffered what appears to be a sprained right knee and did not return. He will have an MRI Saturday or Monday.
The quote
“(Bailey) is a great player and a great kid. I hope he heals and shines the rest of the season.” — Fuessel
The breakdown
Lincoln-Way East was solid in all three phases, and Bolingbrook was not the same after Bailey went down. The Raiders also lost running back John Howard to an apparent broken or dislocated ankle on the back end of a 36-yard pass play late in the first quarter.
