Junior quarterback T.J. Edwards completed 10-of-14 passes for 253 yards and two TDs in the first half, as Lakes rolled up a 42-0 lead and went on to beat visiting Vernon Hills 56-12 on Friday night.

The Eagles (7-1 overall) clinched a share of the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division title with the win and will win it outright for the first time in school history by beating North Chicago next week.

Edwards threw TD passes of 57 yards to Direll Clark and 38 yards to Justin Bergeron. He also ran one in from 16 yards out.

Direll Clark (10 carries, 60 yards in the first half) scored on runs of 12, 2 and 7 yards. Vernon Hills had just 33 yards of offense in the first half.

Vernon Hills scored twice in the third quarter. Jordan Freiburn threw a 36-yard TD pass to T.J. Flis, and Josh Harris returned a Lakes fumble 27 yards to the end zone.

But Lakes answered those two touchdowns with a pair of their own, as Cameron Johnson scored on a 22-yard run and Thomas Dubicki tallied from 19 yards out to bring the score to 56-12.

“We did the little things right again tonight,” said Clark. “Our line did a great job blocking and our defense played well. We are excited for our position to play North Chicago next week. It should be a good test before the playoffs.”

Edwards agreed with his teammate.

“Our offensive line gave me time to throw and our wideouts got open,” the QB said. “It was an all-around team effort.

“We’ve worked hard all summer and it’s paying off right now. Our team chemistry is great and we’re excited about the game next week.”
