Berwyn, IL - Saturday, October 13, 2012: Fenwick's Pat Hart (16) fights for yards vs Lake Forest Academy. | Steve Johnston~for Sun-Times Media
Fenwick juniors Gino Cavalieri and Robert Spillane have been playing catch for the last three years, and the experience together was no more evident than Saturday night when the Friars faced Lake Forest Academy.
Cavalieri tossed three scoring passes to Spillane in the first half, and Fenwick rolled to a 44-14 Catholic White victory.
“It has not been any different than any other time, freshman year we were doing the same thing,” said Spillane. “Coach (Gene) Nudo sets up the right plays where I am the primary receiver and gets me open, and Gino gets me the ball. Me and Gino have a lot of chemistry, so we work together every day in practice.”
Spillane was Cavalieri’s favorite target Saturday, catching six passes for 98 yards, while Danny Lattner also grabbed three passes for 44 yards. Cavalieri completed 11-of-16 passes for 173 yards.
The Friars (6-2, 3-0) also found success on the ground, as Jimmy Donahue scored on a 34-yard end around, and Pat Hart found the end-zone on an eight-yard run in the second quarter.
Fenwick led 35-7 before half-time.
Junior quarterback Chris Karamanos was the catalyst for the Caxys (3-5, 2-1), tossing a 40-yard TD strike to Mathieu Gagnon in the second quarter. He also rushed for a score in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.
Karamanos rushed for 49 yards, while also completing 6-of-9 passes for 72 yards.
Bobby Somers scored the final touchdown for Fenwick, rushing for a 19-yard score with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter.
