Lakes, Grayslake N. poised to become solo champs

Lakes and Grayslake North can win division titles outright with wins on Friday night. The Eagles can win the North Suburban Prairie with a victory against North Chicago, and the Knights can claim the Fox Valley Fox by defeating Woodstock North.

Lakes and Grayslake North can win division titles outright with wins on Friday night.

The Knights should win at Woodstock North to claim the Fox Valley Fox crown. If Grayslake loses, there will be a three-way tie for the title.

In the North Suburban Prairie, Lakes is a huge favorite against visiting North Chicago on Friday. A win gives the Eagles the outright division title. If the Warhawks pull off the huge upset, there will be a three-way tie for first.

Playoff pairings in the eight classes will be announced on Saturday evening.

Area teams that figure to be in the playoffs are Lake Forest, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Stevenson, Warren, Grayslake North, Grant, Lakes, North Chicago, Wauconda and Deerfield.

Of that list, the two teams that will play schools in the playoffs much smaller than they play during the regular season are Lake Forest and North Chicago.

Something to watch on Saturday night when the playoff pairings are announced is whether Woodstock North winds up in Class 5A or winds up in Class 4A with North Chicago.
