Wheaton North quarterback Clayton Thorson recently picked up an offer from Indiana. | Patrick Gleason~For Sun-Times Media

Wheaton North junior quarterback Clayton Thorson keeps getting more recruiting attention.

Thorson recently added an offer from Indiana, and already has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State and Northern Illinois.

“I had been talking to Indiana’s coaches quite a bit,” Thorson said. “I wasn’t expecting it right now but it is nice to get.

‘‘If you would have asked me two months ago, I would have never thought that getting these Big Ten offers was going to happen so soon, it is a blessing.”

Thorson credits much of his success to Wheaton North senior quarterback Johnny Peltz.

“He has taught me a lot about leadership and he leads this team like you couldn’t imagine,” Thorson said. “All these guys are on board with him and he has taught me a lot in that sense and just learning the offense.”

Thorson and Peltz square off against Prospect Friday in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs.

Increasing interest in Dunbar

Glenbard West standout senior defensive lineman Ruben Dunbar has remained low key about recruiting since he started getting looks from schools.

Dunbar has offers from Arizona State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Purdue, among others — and just picked up an offer from Oklahoma State.

“That is pretty much that is new for me with recruiting,” Dunbar said. “I hear from Mizzou a lot too and I talk to coach Craig Kuligowski a lot, the defensive lineman coach there.

‘‘I haven’t taken any visits yet my senior year, but I think I might be going to Mizzou pretty soon for a visit.”

Homecoming visitors

Naperville Central junior quarterback Jake Kolbe was one of many Chicago-area prospects who visited the University of Illinois on its Homecoming Saturday.

“It was awesome, I got to talk with the coaches and meet with coach Tim Beckman for a while which was cool,” Kolbe said. “My favorite part was getting to be around the coaches on game day and also getting to go down on the field for warm-ups.”

Also in attendance were Simeon linebacker Reggie Spearman, Lincoln-Way Central defensive lineman Evan Panfil, Plainfield South linebacker Clifton Garrett and quarterback Aaron Bailey, running back Omar Stover and defensive back Parrker Westphal of Bolingbrook.
