A 6-foot-6, 295-pound lineman, Colin McGovern is one of those players on the football field who toils in obscurity. That’s just the way he likes it. McGovern, who will take his talents to Notre Dame in 2013, helped protect the Lincoln-Way West offense against Rochelle as the Warriors won their first-round playoff game 35-0. McGovern will play in the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 4 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Why did you sign with Notre Dame, and who else were you looking at?
I was visiting schools in the Midwest. First I went to Ohio State, then Wisconsin, Michigan, and then down to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. I was mainly looking at Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Notre Dame.

The Irish offered pretty late in the process, didn’t they?
They offered in early March. I visited back in March for their Junior Day and I fell in love with the place. We were in this auditorium for a presentation when I texted my girlfriend that I would commit by the end of the day, which I did.

They’re 8-0 and just beat Oklahoma in Norman.
I didn’t expect them to be this good.

Does that bode well for you for next year?
It would be nice to play as a true freshman, but I may just end up doing what most freshmen there do — a lot of (weight) lifting.

Most offensive linemen toil in anonymity. Does that bother you?
I’m fine with it. At this level, I get enough attention and it really doesn’t bother me.

If you could play any other sport besides football, what would it be?
Hockey. I think it would be awesome to be out there and skate as fast as they do — and be physical on the ice and do all that hitting.
