Adrian Deere scored on an inbounds play with five seconds remaining to give Warren a dramatic 58-56 win over Uplift in Mundelein/Warren tournament Friday in Mundelein.

Adrian Deere scored on a layup off an inbounds pass with five seconds left to give Warren a 58-56 win over Public League program Uplift on the fourth day of play at the Mundelein/Warren season-opening boys basketball tournament Friday afternoon in Mundelein.

The Devils (2-2) will play Barrington at 4:30 on Saturday. Uplift falls to 1-3 on the young season.

Warren led 44-35 after three quarters, but Uplift pulled even at 56-56 on Jarron Davis' three-pointer with 58 seconds remaining.

Warren held for a final shot. After a common foul with six seconds to play, Aarias Austin inbounded to Deere, who was wide open under the basket. Uplift didn’t get a shot off in the closing seconds.

“We played passively defensively and timidly on offense (in the fourth quarter),” first-year coach Ryan Webber said. “We showed our inexperience today. There’s no substitute for game play (Warren has no returning starters.).

“For three quarters, we showed some progress on offense,” the coach added. “We’re a work in progress.”

Four Devils scored in double figures: Dre Von Hill (15), Deere (13), Eric Gillespie (12) and Shayne White (10).
