Jabari Parker of Simeon heads to the hoop past Milton's Mo Lewis. | Patrick Gleason~For Sun-Times Media
So which school will Simeon senior Jabari Parker choose today?
Looks like it’s going to be Duke.
At least that’s what the Sun-Times’ not very scientific poll of experts and insiders has predicted.
Our wide-ranging group of players, coaches, media and recruiting analysts went pretty heavily towards the Blue Devils, with 64 percent predicting Parker will choose Duke. Michigan State finished second with 28 percent and Florida was third with eight percent. Stanford and BYU were shut out.
Prediction guru Nate Silver was asked via Twitter, but did not respond.
So far, Parker has managed the near impossible, keeping everyone guessing on his college choice right up to the last minute. He will announce his decision at 3 p.m. on ESPNU.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Simeon coach Robert Smith was pretty sure Parker had not made up his mind.
“He better figure it out,” Smith said. “He’s got less than 24 hours at this point.”
Parker received some extra time to think, since the Wolverines game Wednesday was canceled after Hawkins forfeited.
Smith successfully convinced the Parker family to send Jabari to Simeon, but said he didn’t have any tips to give the college coaches on swaying Parker.
“That was probably more his parents,” Smith said. “His mom and dad chose Simeon, the college decision is going to be all his.”
Even with all the hype surrounding the announcement, there is a chance this isn’t the final chapter in Parker’s recruitment. He isn’t signing a letter of intent today. That can’t happen until April, so there is still plenty of time for him to change his mind...
