There is a three-way tie atop the standings in the Grant Holiday tournament after McHenry knocked off the host Bulldogs 66-53 on Friday night.

McHenry, Grayslake North and Northridge Prep all are 3-1 in the six-team, round-robin tournament and none of the leaders play each other in Saturday’s final round.

Should all three win, the tiebreaker is fewest points allowed during the tournament. So far, Northridge has allowed 166 points, Grayslake North 187 and McHenry 204.

McHenry (6-5) rocketed out to a 25-11 lead against Grant, only to see the home team reel the Warriors in and take the lead 29-28 before McHenry grabbed a 31-29 halftime advantage.

The game turned for good in a five-minute stretch around the third-quarter break in which McHenry outscored Grant 14-1 to take a 52-37 lead. Later, Grant had an eight-point possession (three-point play from Thomas Blanchette, two technical free throws by Blanchette, and a three-pointer by Mike Burns) but it wasn’t enough.

Ryan Noda had 15 points for Grant (7-8) and Blanchette had 12 points and 10 boards.

“We had a stretch where we took some quick shots and had some bad possessions. We made some inexperienced mistakes and they capitalized on them,” said Grant coach Wayne Bosworth. “We can’t waste possessions in these types of games.”

In Friday’s other games, Round Lake beat Richmond 59-53 and Grayslake North topped Northridge Prep 53-47.

On Saturday, it’s Round Lake/Grayslake North at 4, McHenry/Richmond at 5:30, and Grant/Northridge Prep at 7.
