A senior guard, Hozzian averages 10 points per game and is among the area leaders in three-pointers.
Pressure to step up as a senior?
I’m one of the oldest people playing on a pretty young team. I think they look up to me and how practices should be run. The younger girls are really stepping up and showing they can be a part of this team.
West shoots a lot of three-pointers. Is it a fun system to run?
It’s fun because we are so small. Our tallest girl is 5-foot-9, and we’re going up against 6-foot players. We have good shooters who can all shoot the three so that makes it fun.
Always been a good shooter?
It’s a lot of work. I go to shooting lessons. I was tall growing up, and I used to play down low (in the post). Then I started playing guard and the shot came around. It was nice.
Snap your finger and your game improves. What do you pick?
Defense. I struggle. There’s something about it. It’s my weakness.
Pick someone from another team you want on yours. Who do you pick?
Lincoln-Way North’s Taylor Boardman (2012), a freshman at Carthage. We could play her in the post.
Have a New Year’s resolution?
Running again. I used to run a lot.
Who is your celebrity prom date?
Kip Moore. He’s a country singer.
Best Christmas present you got?
I got these sick Under Armour sweatpants. I love any clothes.
Have you picked a college?
I’m still looking, but I’d like to play basketball. I’m looking at Carroll and Carthage.
What will you remember most about Lincoln-Way West?
How much school spirit we have. We’re crazy, and I love it. Everyone is happy and everyone is friendly.
