Nothing surprises Power House boys basketball coach Jermaine Johnson when it comes to the on-court exploits of prized senior guard Elliott Cole.

Cole, averaging 38.1 points per game, exploded for a career-high 64 points as Power House routed host Little Village 96-58 on Monday.

Leading 36-33 at halftime, the Panthers (8-8) scored 33 points in the third quarter powered by Cole’s prolific scoring to break open the game. On the night, Cole made 8 of 11 three-pointers and finished 13-for-16 at the free-throw line

“We played together and picked up our defense, which was the key,” Cole said. “I was feeling it and knew I could get to the basket and score or draw some fouls. When Little Village started going under the picks, I started shooting from outside.”

Cole’s previous career high came earlier this season when he netted 49 points against Newark at the Seneca Holiday tournament.

After attending St. Joseph for three years, Cole transferred to Power House and is enjoying a stellar senior campaign.

“He’s a complete player,” Johnson said. “I told Elliott to bring it tonight and obviously he did. He scored the ball well and also handed out 10 assists.”

Cole's 64 points ties him for the 22nd most points scored in a single game in Illinois history, according to IHSA.org. It is the first time since 1991 (Chicago Harvard's Walter Simmons, 75 points) that at least 64 points have been recorded.
