New Trier took another step forward Monday.
As an added bonus, the Trevians snapped their five-game losing streak with a 53-26 Central Suburban South win over Niles West.
“We’re working on getting better, and winning always validates what you do,” New Trier coach Teri Rodgers said. “But it’s all about getting better right now. And we are better, but we might not always get the win.”
Sophomore guard Jackie Welch led a balanced offensive attack with nine points. Junior guard Alexa Czyzynski added eight points, while junior guard Isabella Bosco contributed seven points.
New Trier (10-9, 3-4) raced past Niles West in the second quarter when the Trevians held the Wolves to one point to take a 30-10 lead into the locker room.
But Rodgers was disappointed with her team’s execution in the third quarter after the Trevians committed seven turnovers.
“We have lapses in games,” she said. “We’ve been in games we have lost where we have won three of the four quarters. We have got to put a whole game together. We are not there yet.”
Sophomore forward Julia Easter led all scorers with 10 points. The loss dropped the Wolves (4-13, 2-5), who continue to find their way without Jewell Loyd.
