The star
Matt Mooney came up huge for the No. 10 Dons, scoring most of the team's big baskets. The senior guard and Air Force recruit helped Notre Dame (18-2, 4-1 East Suburban Catholic) open a large lead in the first quarter with seven of his game-best 22 points.
The moment
Notre Dame senior guard Jake Maestranzi connected on a three-pointer two minutes into the game that gave his club a 7-0 lead and forced St. Viator (14-5, 3-2) to take an early timeout. Even still, the Lions never truly got into the game.
The quote
"The two games we lost this year we lost leads. We've learned from that. We can't let teams back into games and give them life. That's when they get confidence." — Notre Dame senior guard Matt Mooney
The breakdown
The Dons led by as many as 14 in the first quarter and by no less than five for the game, routinely extending advantages into double digits. St. Viator sophomore guard Mark Falotico scored 17 in the loss.
