Warren’s gym had a different hue on Friday night,
This was the Rock the Beat Red Out Game to support the American Heart and Stroke Association.
As a result, “red” was the color of the day instead of “blue.”
And it turned out to be a red-letter day for the Blue Devils as Warren took command in the third quarter and raced to a 68-44 victory over Libertyville.
Adrian Deere had 26 points for the winners on 8-for-13 shooting, including 3-for-4 behind the arc.
Arthell Rosquist added 12 points, Dre Von Hill 11, Timmy Pieper 10 off the bench, and Aarias Austin had 13 assists.
“I was just looking to be aggressive,” said Deere of his career night. “I felt like I knew Libertyville pretty well and how to attack them.
“It’s a great feeling when we’re playing together like we did tonight,” he added, “and on a Friday night when the gym is crowded. There was a focus in our locker room and when we came out, it showed on the court.”
Warren coach Ryan Webber also liked what he saw on the floor.
“Our message has been to do it together. Don’t rely on one guy to bail you out,” Webber said. “I thought that defensively, we were very active, especially in the second half.”
Warren led 31-26 early in the third quarters. The Devils then went on a 15-4 run to break it open.
Joe Borcia had 14 points and Drew Cayce 11 for the Wildcats.
The Devils finished 6-6 in the rugged North Suburban Lake and, at 14-11, are assured of a winning record with a squad of new players and a new coach.
Libertyville is 5-19.
“What a great league,” Webber said of the NSC Lake. “Good coaches, a lot of good talent, good systems. It’s like the Big Ten of high school basketball.
“Everybody beats up on each other and you can’t take a night off.”
