Mundelein's Chino Ebube dunks the ball in front of Round Lake's Karnell Wright during the second period at Mundelein High School Tuesday, February 19, 2013. | Josh Peckler - For Sun-Times Media
It was senior night and Chino Ebube wanted to put on a show.
His spectacular two-handed slam midway through the first period set the tone for the Mustangs. Mundelein couldn’t have scripted a better postseason tune-up as as all 11 seniors played in a 86-43 blow out of Round Lake.
“It was awesome,” senior Robert Knar said. “All the seniors scored except (one).”
In a season marred by injury and illness, the victory endured the Mustangs (14-13) would finish with a .500 record.
Thirty-six points shy of 2,000 for his career, Knar’s did not hit that milestone, scoring 11 points. But a number that matters more to Mustangs fans is his minutes, now ramped up to four per quarter.
His continued recovery from a knee injury has Mundelein optimistic it can make a long playoff run.
“It comes down to the guys believing which I think they do,” coach Richard Knar said. “The biggest thing is do we have confidence, do we have our swagger going.”
Senior Sean O’Brien finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Ebube had 13 while senior Thomas Gandolfi added 11 for the Mustangs.
Mundelein closes out the regular season Friday when it travels to face Schurz High School.
