Argo took advantage of a unique opportunity Friday to show Richards what it’s capable of just three days before the teams meet in the playoffs.
The Krob brothers — Dustin and Ryan — scored 23 and 19 points, respectively, and the visiting Argonauts topped Richards 85-75 in the teams’ South Suburban Red finale.
The squads will meet again at Richards at 6 p.m. Monday in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal.
“This was a big game for us,” Dustin Krob said. “We’re in their heads now and we know we can beat them now.”
Tyler Mitchell (17 points, eight rebounds) and Jalyn Turner (16 points, 10 rebounds) also had big games for Argo (11-14, 7-6).
Josh Meier (15 rebounds) and Dedrick Shannon Jr. (eight rebounds) poured in 25 points each for Richards (16-10, 8-5), which still won the Red title outright thanks to Reavis’ loss to Eisenhower.
“I couldn’t care less about [the Red title] right now,” Richards coach John Chappetto said. “I’m worried about how we can possibly beat Argo. They exploited all our weaknesses.”
Argo, which used an 11-3 fourth-quarter run to go up 71-62 and take control for good, finished 32-for-55 from the field.
