CLASS 3A ANTIOCH SECTIONAL
Top seeds — 1) North Chicago. 2) Lakes. 3) Ridgewood. 4) Gordon Tech.
Regional hosts — Chicago Senn. North Chicago. Vernon Hills. Ridgewood.
Sectional winner — Advances to Hoffman Estates Round of 8 supersectional and will be a huge underdog if Chicago Orr is the other team in the gym that night.
Story line 1 — North Chicago (24-3) is trying to become the first Lake County team in history to qualify for the Final Four state tournament in Peoria three years in a row.
Story line 2 — The wheels have come completely off the North Chicago machine. Two losses in last four games and a third game it could have lost. That’s opened the door for Lakes or Ridgewood, and either Gordon Tech or Chicago Uplift.
Story line 3 — Carmel will need to reach the sectional finals to finish the season above .500 for the first time in more than 20 years.
Chalk — North Chicago over Lakes in sectional final.
Or no chalk — Chicago Uplift over Ridgewood in sectional final.
CLASS 4A WAUKEGAN SECTIONAL
Top seeds — 1) Stevenson. 2) Zion-Benton. 3) St. Viator. 4) Lake Forest.
Regional hosts — Warren. Deerfield. Prospect. Lake Zurich.
Sectional winner — Advances to NIU Round of 8 supersectional in DeKalb and will be favored to beat any team from the Rockford or Elgin areas that also is in the gym that night.
Story line 1 — Will the sectional be a North Conference Lake Division tourney with Stevenson, Warren, Zion-Benton and either Mundelein or Lake Forest advancing to the Dog Pound?
Story line 2 — Each of the top three seeds has a superstar (Jalen Brunson at Stevenson, Milik Yarbrough at Zion-Benton and Ore Arogundade at St. Viator). Which will come up biggest?
Chalk — Stevenson over Zion-Benton in sectional final.
Or no chalk — Mundelein over St. Viator in sectional final.
