Tuesday

2A Joliet Central Supersectional

Seton (21-10) vs. Providence-St. Mel (25-5)

When: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday

Where: 201 E. Jefferson, Joliet

The breakdown: A rematch of last season’s supersectional which saw Seton pull out a 61-51 win. The Sting boast a pair of dazzling guards in Mark Weems Jr. (20 ppg) and Kamal Shasi, and an inside presence in 6-foot-8 Alex Foster. The Knights are led by guard Anthony Mosley, a big-time three-point threat. The inside tandem of Donald Morgan and Joshua McNeal will have their hands full containing Foster, who is capable of targeting the basket from beyond the arc. Tevin King is another option for Providence-St. Mel.

3A Rich South Sectional

Rich East (19-6) vs. Coal City (19-12)

When: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday

Where: 5000 Sauk Trail, Richton Park

The breakdown: Rich East not only boasts multiple scoring options in Ron Lawton (15.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg), Don Henderson (10 rpg), Russell Wright, Nick Horne and Brandon Cole, it can play up-tempo or ball-control styles. The Rockets will likely try to run Coal City out of the gym. The Coalers boast a decent one-two scoring punch in Nick Peters (14.1 ppg) and Brennen Shetina (10.6 ppg), but will need others to contribute, such as Jon West.

3A St. Laurence Sectional

Morgan Park (28-3) vs. Fenger (16-8)

When: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday

Where: 5556 W. 77th Street, Burbank

The breakdown: Morgan Park is attempting a coast-to-coast run as the SouthtownStar’s No. 1 team. DePaul-bound senior Billy Garrett Jr. (22 ppg, 7 assists, 6 rebounds) and Kyle Davis (21 ppg, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) are top performers on a Mustangs team drowning in talent. Josh Cunningham can also fill the basket while Lamont Walker is the Mustangs’ top defender. Fenger will rely heavily on Victor Watson (22 ppg) Elonte Davis, Isaih Davis and Keiquan Mitchell.

4A Thornton Sectional

Joliet West (19-7) vs. Marian Catholic (27-3)

When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday

Where: 151st and Broadway, Harvey

The breakdown: Each team boasts a player capable of single-handedly taking over a game. When it’s go time, expect Joliet West’s Morris Dunnigan and Marian Catholic’s Tyler Ulis to steal the spotlight. Dunnigan, a senior, is averaging 17.3 points per game and has the skills to put the ball in the basket a variety of ways, including jaw-dropping jams. Carl Terrell, Brandon McCullum and Ryan Modiest provide scoring options for West, which could pose some problems in the paint for Marian. Ulis, a junior point guard averaging 22 points and nearly five assists per game, is a dazzling ball-handler who can penetrate or step back and knock down a three-pointer. Juniors Terrone Parham and Josh Cohn are top wingmen for the Spartans.

Wednesday

Providence (15-13) vs. Hillcrest (22-6)

Kevin Kozan, who was named Lawless Award winner as MVP of the Catholic League South, has averaged more than 19 points for Providence. The supporting cast for Hillcrest includes 5-10 senior guard Kyle Oden, who averages nearly 5 assists, and 46-percent three-point shooter Allen Jones, a 6-1 junior.
