Homewood-Flossmoor girls basketball coach Dana Noble said he was looking forward to a fourth campaign at the helm of the Vikings.

Friday, that choice was taken out of his hands.

“It was not my decision,” said Noble, who confirmed Monday he will not be returning for the 2013-14 season.

Noble, who previously served as an assistant to Ryan Sheriff for four years, had a 63-25 record at H-F. His first two teams won Class 4A regional titles. The 2012-13 Vikings were 18-10, losing to Crete-Monee in a regional semifinal.

Noble would not elaborate on the reasons he was given for not being rehired.

“I thought I did a pretty good job for Homewood-Flossmoor High School,” said Noble, who will remain at the school as a math teacher. “I felt that I did take the program and continue the success we had under Ryan.

“When he left, he had taken (H-F) to one regional title. I took it to two after that. This season wasn’t as good as I would have liked … but I was looking forward to continuing my coaching career.

“I went into teaching and coaching as a combined part of my profession. I can see me coaching somewhere again at some point.”

A call Monday to H-F athletic director Alec Anderson was not returned.
