Stagg, behind a gem of a pitching performance by Max Strus and key contributions from the bottom of the batting order, stunned Sandburg 4-2 in a Class 4A Sandburg Regional semifinal on Wednesday.
Kim Jerantowski found the back of the net twice as Lemont took care of business in its sectional semifinal matchup with Joliet Catholic, 3-1, on Wednesday to set up a championship game with Marian Catholic this Saturday.
After entering the postseason with a 3-12-3 record, Marian Catholic will be one of the final 16 Class 2A teams standing in the state after they pulled off another upset Wednesday night, topping Tinley Park 1-0 in a Lincoln-Way West Sectional semifinal.
Waubonsie Valley won its first regional in seven years by pulling off its second upset in as many nights, defeating WW South 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 at Waubonsie Valley Wednesday.
Reid Ebersole and Alex Pohlman had four kills each to lead Oak Park-River Forest to a 25-12, 25-13 victory over Argo in the Cristo Rey Regional final on Wednesday.
