Beecher's Grant Nykaza defended his Class 1A title in the 1,600 meters Saturday after earlier winning the 3,200. Among other small-school highlights, Glenbard South's John Wold ran a 2A class-record 1:54.66 in the 800 and Leo's Marlon Britton took the 1A 110 hurdles.
Parker, which made its first state title game appearance in any sport, didn’t win the Class 1A state championship Saturday night, but the Colonels walked off the field at North Central College in Naperville feeling as though they had.

Olivia Jensen scored a goal, but it wasn't enough as Johnsburg lost to Alton Marquette 2-1 in the Class 1A third place match. The fourth-place finish earned the school its first ever trophy in any sport.

Kaneland’s 3,200-meter relay team of Conor Johnson, Kyle Carter, Luis Acosta and Nate Kucera and Sandwich thrower Ryan Njegovan all stepped to the top of the awards’ podium Saturday at the state track meet at Eastern Illinois University.
Providence's Andrew Hemlin capped a great career by winning the 110 hurdles and finishing second in the 300 hurdles at the Class 3A state finals in Charleston. His finishes helped Providence finish second this weekend.
Led by pitcher Elaine Heflin, who tossed a perfect game through five innings, third-seeded Downers North blanked Oswego East 2-0 in a Class 4A regional softball championship game Saturday.

Plainfield South pitcher Shane Ritter, who had never played the position prior to this season, survived a shaky first inning and when on to four-hit Joliet West on Saturday to capture the Class 4A Joliet Central Regional championship.
