West Aurora center Josh McAuley scored 11 of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Blackhawks survived Geneva’s unique defensive scheme and downed the Vikings 45-37 in a 4A regional final.
Held scoreless in the first half, Geneva senior MikeTrimble came up big in the second half, scoring nine points and helping the Vikings hold off the Red Devils, 55-49.
It was one of those nights at Bartlett’s gym Friday when no one could find the basket — except for Geneva’s Nate Navigato. The sophomore forward finished with 23 points in his team’s 36-34 victory.
The Geneva girls basketball team has won its last seven games, allowing the Vikings to claim both the Upstate Eight River title and a regional championship.
Geneva didn’t make things any easier for an ice-cold Neuqua Valley team Friday night. Geneva pulled out a 54-46 win in the unofficial Upstate Eight Conference title game at Neuqua Valley.
