Oak Park-River Forest couldn’t come all the way back, but they did put a scare into Lyons. Down 8-1, OPRF cut the lead to 11-9 with a minute left before Lyons was able to hang on for a 12-9 win.
York gave Lyons all it could handle, but a string of four goals coming on the heels of Dukes ejections provided the fuel for the Lions to come back for a 7-5 win in the Fenwick Sectional semifinals.
Clayton Smentek has played a major role in Lyons compiling a 15-2 record this season. The outside hitter has 82 kills, 18 blocks, 77 digs and eight aces this season. During the offseason, Smentek is a setter for his club team 3rd Coast Elite.

Lyons has been on a hot streak since losing to Fenwick. They're on a crash course to face off in the secotional final in a couple weeks, as well as the Stevenson tournament this weekend.

Over the first four innings, Lyons slapped, bunted and went for the extra base at every turn against Queen of Peace. Six hits and five Pride errors later, LT scored four runs en route to a 5-1 nonconference win on Tuesday.

Recovering from a football injury last season, Lyons' Jimmy Mitchell wasn't fully healthy last track season. Now 100 percent, he looks to make it to state in his best event, shot put.
