On this day when the Herald-News announces the Boys All-Area Basketball Team, Morris Dunnigan of Joliet West is cited as the Player of the Year. However, there was plenty of competition for the honor.
Lemont sophomore Nick Urban hopes to follow in the footsteps of his sister Jessica's prolific career for the Indians. Jessica graduated in 2009 with a record of 101-20.
Bolingbrook switched to a box-and-one midway through the third quarter to break a tie game with Lemont and turn it into a 71-63 victory in a Class 4A Batavia Regional semifinal on Wednesday.
Lemont heads into its showdown with Hillcrest for the South Suburban title red hot, while the Catholic League will add a season-ending playoff for the 2013-2014 season and Young is the sixth different team in the last six years to win the Public League title in this week’s three-pointer.
Lemont’s defense fueled its offense during the opening minutes of its 61-47 victory over Reavis that puts the Indians a win away from a share of the conference championship.
With Romeoville struggling from the floor Wednesday, Abby Smith picked a perfect time to get on a hot streak, finishing with 12 points in Romeoville’s 52-35 win over host Lemont in a 4A regional semifinal.

Lemont’s Joe Hehir has a knack for coming up big in clutch situations. On Friday, he did so again. Hehir drained a free throw with 4.3 seconds remaining to lift the Indians to a 51-50 win over host T.F. North in a South Suburban Blue contest.

As impressive as Lemont has been, winning 19 of 21 games, coach Rick Runaas is aware the stretch run could dictate just how successful the season will be.
