Gold and Martinez duel in distance runs; Grant takes Deerfield title

Deerfield’s Alex Gold edged Warren’s Martin Martinez to win the 3,200 (9:36.0.) at the Deerfield Invite Saturday. Then Martinez outkicked Gold (4:34.0) for first place in the 1,600. Grant won the team title (145.5).
Crystal Lake complied 203 rushing yards on 48 attempts while their defense allowed Grant 181 total yards en route to a 30-13 victory in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
Sophomore wingback Jeremy Bredwood scored four touchdowns and host Grant overwhelmed Lake View from the Chicago Public League 59-0 on Friday in Round 1 of the Class 6A football playoffs.
