The 100-year-old conference isn't standing pat in its second century, confirming on Monday the addition for football of five current Suburban Christian Conference members — including defending state champs Montini (Class 5A) and Aurora Christian (3A).

Aurora Central's Matt Miller, the Suburban Christian Gold Player of the Year, finished 6-1 with an 0.90 ERA and 80 strikeouts while hitting .400 in the three hole and playing shortstop on days he wasn't on the mound. It all led to Miller being named the Beacon News Baseball Player of the Year.
A mix of perennial powerhouses and first-time attendees will highlight Friday and Saturday's Class 3A and 4A state tournament. Barrington makes its eighth appearance under coach Perry Peterson in the 4A field and Tinley Park makes its debut splash in 3A.

The IHSA on Wednesday released its new Football Acclimatization Policy, which will govern how often and how long teams can work out at the start of the preseason, along with what equipment they can wear. The concept is to protect the players, but it doesn't come without some contradictions.
