Plainfield South pitcher Shane Ritter, who had never played the position prior to this season, survived a shaky first inning and when on to four-hit Joliet West on Saturday to capture the Class 4A Joliet Central Regional championship.
Joliet Catholic senior right-hander Sam Couch tossed a complete game no-hitter against Lemont en route to a 3-0 victory in the Lemont 3A Regional championship Saturday afternoon in Lemont.
Lemont got an easy goal in the fifth minute and added another later, as it defeated Marian Catholic 2-0 for the Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Sectional championship.
Plainfield South defeated Plainfield Central twice in the regular season, but the roles reversed in Saturday's 4A Joliet Central Regional title game, as the Wildcats routed their rivals 10-0 Saturday afternoon.
Plainfield North upset Naperville Central 5-4 to win the Naperville Central regional Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks had ended two of the Tigers’ three 30-win seasons in the last three years in the sectional.
The five seniors on Lincoln-Way West have taken a beating at times during their tenure on varsity, but Saturday made it worth while when the Warriors captured their first regional title with a 7-1 win over Marian Catholic.
When Brother Rice roared out to a seven-point first-set victory Friday night in an Andrew Sectional semifinal, Lincoln-Way East never lost its poise, storming back to an 18-25, 25-22, 25-21 win.

Lemont's Charlie Wright pitched shutout ball into the sixth inning and the Indians scored four runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 9-1 victory over Lincoln-Way West in the semifinals of the Class 3A Lemont Regional.
Senior Lockport pitcher Carly Dundee blasted a pair of home runs, including a game-ending grand slam, and had six RBI as Lockport defeated host Romeoville 14-4 in five innings on Thursday afternoon in the Class 4A regional semifinal match.
Kim Jerantowski found the back of the net twice as Lemont took care of business in its sectional semifinal matchup with Joliet Catholic, 3-1, on Wednesday to set up a championship game with Marian Catholic this Saturday.

Brother Rice named Rick Harrigan, Class 2002, its basketball coach on Friday. Harrigan was named the Catholic League’s Most Outstanding Player his senior season, as well as Lawless Award winner in 2002.
