Despite a lukewarm reception to the new discus competition area at Eastern Illinois University, Grant's Brandon Lombardino still qualified first for Saturday's 3A final in the event with a throw of 179 feet, 10 inches in Friday's preliminaries.
Five underclassmen scored all of Lake Forest's goals in its 5-0 rout of Grayslake Central in a Class 2A Lakes Sectional semifinal. No team has scored on the Scouts thus far this postseason.
Hersey used the field and sun to its advantage as it rushed to a 3-0 lead on its way to a 3-1 Class 3A Mundelein sectional semifinal win over Carmel. The Huskies handed the Corsairs their only two losses on the year.

Brittny Ellis, Brittani Griesbaum and Danielle Griesbaum have been here before and they could be here again. The three Lake County sophomores all wound up on the top of the podium for the second straight season at the IHSA girls state track meet at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Field.
Mother McAuley’s five senior starters — who were all part of three state-qualifying teams — all pitched in as the Mighty Macs earned their best finish since 2008 with an 11-9 win over Mundelein at Stevenson in Lincolnshire.
Lake Forest scored four goals over an 11-minute span early in the second half to bury host Antioch 5-0 on Friday and win the Class 2A regional championship.
Lakes was dominant during Friday night's Class 2A Vernon Hills Sectional track and field meet. So dominant, in fact, that the Eagles' 144 team points were nearly twice as many as their next-closest competitors.

Brother Rice named Rick Harrigan, Class 2002, its basketball coach on Friday. Harrigan was named the Catholic League’s Most Outstanding Player his senior season, as well as Lawless Award winner in 2002.
