St. Ignatius won its first state title in school history by stopping Danijela Jackovich and Lincoln-Way Central 12-9 Saturday in the state title game. Jackovich scored eight of the nine Knights goals.
Elexis Fairley finished second in the 100 and sixth in the 200 and was just one of a number of runners from the south and south suburbs that had a successful weekend at the state finals.

The Public League has shifted its premier event, the boys basketball tournament, all over the city the last few years. With a potential brand-new arena near McCormick Place, the Public League might finally have a place to call home.
Lane won its seventh consecutive Public League title Saturday, defeating Young 6-2 at UIC. The Indians have won 14 of the last 16 Public League titles.
