Stevenson survived a late Palatine surge to hang on for an 8-7 win in Saturday's sectional final just over an hour after the Patriots' girls water polo squad fell to Mundelein in similar fashion.
Mundelein senior Colin McCarthy rushed home from a club competition in Portland, Oregon late this week and returned just in time to help the Mustangs edge Buffalo Grove, 152.75 to 150.7, in Saturday afternoon's Mundelein sectional.
