The Public League has shifted its premier event, the boys basketball tournament, all over the city the last few years. With a potential brand-new arena near McCormick Place, the Public League might finally have a place to call home.
A new NCAA rule regarding spring evaluations of players at live events has allowed players nationwide to garner attention from college coaches this spring. Here are four local standouts that have taken full advantage.

Stevenson sophomore Jalen Brunson has NBA DNA, courtesy of father Rick, and his unorthodox game is drawing interest from elite schools across the country.
Young's Jahlil Okafor and Curie's Cliff Alexander could end up ranked No. 1 and No. 2 nationally in the Class of 2014. The accomplishment would make the two players the highest ranked tandem in Illinois prep basketball history.

Chuck Okafor, Jahlil Okafor’s father, calls it ‘‘the look-away,’’ and apparently it’s the price of admission for an in-home visit with the best player in the national Class of 2014. Tom Izzo, Bill Self and Mike Krzyzewski have all gotten in on the act.
As Jalen Brunson and Charles Matthews continue to battle for the title of No. 1 player in the Illinois Class of 2015, some college coaches have weighed-in with their thoughts.

Tommy Hamilton Jr., son of former King standout and Chicago legend Thomas Hamilton, committed to DePaul this week. While the story may have a happy ending, his ride has at times been turbulent.
Young, Stevenson, Marian Catholic, Curie and North Chicago return big-time players and will all be loaded next season, while defending champ Simeon, St. Rita, Morgan Park and Orr will each roll out intriguing lineups. So who will be the preseason No. 1 team?
Marian Catholic junior Tyler Ulis, who averaged 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals last season, is out to show national scouts his stuff on the travel circuit.
St. Rita's Victor Law averaged 14 points and nine rebounds for a deep St. Rita team last season and is rated the 28th-best player in the Class of 2014 by ESPN.

Pat Richardson, who amassed a mark of 433-232 in 24 years as Brother Rice's basketball coach, has resigned, effective immediately. He will remain at the school as a social studies teacher.
This week marks the start of the basketball spring signing period. Many Chicago players, including Duke-bound Jabari Parker, are set to sign with their chosen schools.
With many big names unable to play due to other obligations, several players seized the spotlight Saturday in the 33rd Annual Luther Bedford All-Star Classic at Young. Among them, Taft's Joshua Doss, who had 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Brother Rice senior Alex Majewski scored 16 points to lead the Catholic League All-Stars to a 103-96 victory over the East Suburban Catholic All-Stars Friday at St. Laurence. Marist’s L.J. McIntosh scored 21 points for the ESCC.

After Seton coach Brandon Thomas issued a statement regarding the IHSA's sanctions against him, IHSA executive director Marty Hickman was more than willing Friday to discuss Thomas' accusations.
The IHSA announced Wednesday that Seton coach Brandon Thomas will not be allowed to coach the Sting in the next two IHSA state series and will be on probation next season. On Friday, Thomas responded with a statement.
On Wednesday the IHSA sanctioned Seton and Harrisburg coaches for their involvement in poor sportsmanship displayed during the boys basketball Class 2A title game. On Thursday, Seton principal Marianne Lynch issued a statement addressing the sanctions.

In the aftermath of the Class 2A boys basketball title game, the IHSA has sanctioned both Seton and Harrisburg head coaches and the game officials. Seton's Brandon Thomas won't be able to coach the Sting in the next two state playoffs, and has been placed on probation for next season.

Simeon's Jabari Parker finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals while helping his West team to a 110-99 victory over the East in the McDonald's All-American game Wednesday night at the United Center.

Jabari Parker chose to pay homage to Chicago, especially Michael Jordan, in Monday's McDonald's All American dunk contest. Parker pulled off an array of dunks, which included a cradle dunk and one where he took off from the free throw line as he placed third in competition.
