Joliet West’s Morris Dunnigan has been named the Joliet Herald-News Player of the Year. Dunnigan made highlight reel plays all season as he averaged 17.2 points per game and led his team to a 19-8 record.
Kyle Oden netted 15 points and assisted on two key baskets late to help Hillcrest earn a 59-51 victory over Providence in a Class 3A sectional semifinal at Rich South on Thursday.

Tyler Ulis paced a balanced attack with 16 points, and Marian Catholic limited Joliet West star Morris Dunnigan to 12 points as the Spartans coasted to a 65-54 win Wednesday in a Class 4A Thornton Sectional semifinal.
Rich East turned up the pace and the pressure and took advantage of 12 Coal City turnovers to end up with a 75-47 victory in a Class 3A Rich South Sectional semifinal on Wednesday night.

After an successsful four year run, the Joliet West senior class played its final game on Wednesday after falling to Marian Catholic 65-54 in a Class 4A sectional semifinal at Thornton.

Joliet West is the No. 4 seed in the Thornton Sectional and will attempt to upset No. 1 Marian Catholic in the semifinal. It will not be easy, but as the Tigers showed in last week’s 40-37 regional title win over T.F. North, they can win with defense.

Bolingbrook switched to a box-and-one midway through the third quarter to break a tie game with Lemont and turn it into a 71-63 victory in a Class 4A Batavia Regional semifinal on Wednesday.

T.F. North made 13 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter while Joliet Central settled for 5 of 12 as the Meteors held off the Steelmen 48-38 Tuesday night in a semifinal of the Class 4A Lockport Regional.
North Chicago, Waukegan, Round Lake, Antioch and New Trier participated in a round-robin competition that honored the memory of one of this area’s legendary referees.
The moment was enough to hot wire the pulse of any Chicago high school basketball junkie. In the third game of the just launched Nike-backed Chi-League Pro-Am at Young on Saturday, Jabari Parker delivered a perfect pass to a trailing Cliff Alexander.

Mike Kornacker had a season that will be difficult to duplicate. On the mound the St. Laurence right-hander was 7-1 — including two perfect games — with a 0.97 ERA. Five of his seven wins were shutouts.
